UC WHITE MOUNTAIN RESEARCH STATION
WMRS POLICY - RULES AND REGULATIONS

(1) WMRS cannot allow access to its facilities until an annual WMRS User Application has been approved by the WMRS Station Manager and copies of all necessary annual permits (e.g., animal use or US. Forest Service permits) have been secured.

(2) Smoking is prohibited in all WMRS buildings. Check with the staff for designated outdoor smoking areas.

(3) Pets cannot be accommodated at WMRS, but there are options for boarding your pet in Bishop. Long-term residents and regular staff may request special permission from the Station Manager to have their pets on Station grounds.

(4) Firearms are not allowed at any of the WMRS facilities. State law forbids firearms on property of the University of California. Exceptions related to research activities may be made by special written permission of the Station Manager. This prohibition applies to all faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

(5) The WMRS has very limited accommodations for long-term users accompanied by family. During the busy summer season, we cannot guarantee privacy to individuals or couples, and may not be able to accommodate children because most of our lodging is in dormitories. Children must be fully supervised by their parents or guardians whenever they are at the station. Please contact us regarding long-term or special lodging requirements.

(6) All visitors or users must always check in at the Bishop facility, either by telephone (760/873-4344) or in person (3000 East Line Street, Bishop) within 24 hours or less of traveling to any of the facilities located in the mountains

(7) All users must sign a UC Risk Management liability waiver before using any station facilities.

8) Telephone (760-873-9894) located in the Main Dining Room is available for incoming and outgoing personal calls. Local calls are free but you must have a calling card or credit card for long distance calls. The office phone is not to be used for messages except on an emergency basis

(9) Unless prior arrangement is made, all users must return to the Bishop office to return keys and check out.

(10) Groups and individual researchers are required to participate in housekeeping chores. Cooks or group leaders will post KP schedules for individuals and groups, and all users will be provided with a checklist of maintenance tasks for which they will be held responsible. These checklists are to be signed and returned to the Bishop Office at the end of each stay. At the time of departure, group leaders and individuals should ask a WMRS staff member to inspect their living quarters and bathrooms for cleanliness. Users who do not comply with this policy will be charged $25/hour to cover staff time.

(11) Reprints and brief abstracts of all work related to the White Mountain region should be sent to: Station Manager, White Mountain Research Station, University of California, 3000 East Line St., Bishop, California 93514
