Fantastic resource from the Purdue University Writing Lab

On the Writing Process, including all stages of writing a paper (Thesis, Outline, Proofreading, etc) http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/1/1/

None of the Outlines I received exhibited the research and thought normally associated with Course Papers. Each of you should go through the section on Prewriting (Invention) http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/673/01/

I recommend that all ICAM110 students and practice Reverse Outlining – for example, by reverse outlining one of the books or articles you chose to research your topic: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/689/01/ The outlines I reviewed were unacceptable. They did not fit the definition of an outline. A little practice will go a long way here!

On developing an outline for a Paper (read all 3 pages on Outlines) http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/544/1/

On Developing a Thesis Statement http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/545/01/ Our Course Paper is an argumentative paper: An argumentative paper makes a claim about a topic and justifies this claim with specific evidence. The claim could be an opinion, a policy proposal, an evaluation, a cause-and-effect statement, or an interpretation. The goal of the argumentative paper is to convince the audience that the claim is true based on the evidence provided. – from the Writing Lab website

On your ICAM110 Course Paper

Here are some examples of Thesis statements that would make sense for ICAM110. You can feel free to use or adapt these statements for your purposes:
  1. Although it is no longer necessary for artists to learn computer programming in order to produce Computing Art, artists who code exhibit greater control and originality in their work.(7 of our presentations this quarter are relevant here)
  2. Due to the technical demands associated with Computing Art, collaboration among individuals with diverse skills is necessary for success. (5 or more of our presentations this quarter are relevant here)
  3. Future Locative Media Art will rely on emerging 3D imaging tools from several key disciplines: Archaeology, Architecture, and Geology. (2 of our presentations this quarter are relevant here)
  4. Due to practices perpetuated through social media such as appropriation, repurposing, rebranding, and redistribution, it is no longer possible or plausible to draw a line between the disciplines of Fine and Applied Art. (4 of our presentations this quarter are relevant here)
